What stands out to me weeks later is the resiliency of ordinary Haitians. I have never seen such destruction and disruption. But contrary to the impression given by television news, the people of Haiti acted calm and purposeful. Those I met were dealing in a dignified way with their tragedies.
I read today that it has begun to rain. At least one million people, and probably more, are sleeping in the open air. They have shown that they can cope with difficult circumstances, but heavy rains could make the situation very bad.
